Why are gyms in the UK so expensive?
I mean seriously! No wonder we’re getting so fat! I’m a keen runner but after the freezing weather today I’m starting to wonder if I’m ‘ard enough to run in the winter months. I looked into gym memberships today for my area (Reading) and they’re extortionate and demand you sign up for 12 months!
Whats even more annoying is that my father lives in Canada and has just booked a family membership (2 adults, 3 kids) for £50 a month unlimited access, personalised plans blah blah blah.
I understand gyms are companies that like making profits but why are they ripping off the good people of Britain.. why not the french?!
ooh extra gratitude if you’re from Reading and know of a good pay-as-you-go gym!
x
Because the British are so used to being ripped off we just accept it as a matter of course. It doesn’t matter if is a gym taking £30 a month of a member who rarely attends, or a garage taking £3 for a sandwich, a vending machine extracting £7 for a packet of ciggies, or an airport putting up a wall of concrete to “prevent terrorism” but at the same time charging £2 to leave the pick up point, which used to be free.
Anyway, you can exercise for free. Walk, ride a bike, run, do the gardening, all of these are still free for now.
The best value for money gyms are council owned, but not all towns have a municipal gym, though the one near me does not require membership, and costs £2 per visit.
